Dover Publishing for Unique BooksAffordable Titles for Collectors, Crafters and ChildrenRead about an unusual publisher that specializes in low-cost, high-quality books that you will want to add to your book collection.
There is a small publisher called "Dover Books" that is the joy of readers who love finding the extraordinary in books. Dover has been around for several decades and specializes in historic, vintage, collector and craft topics. The price is always right. Many of their books are under $10; none are anything like what you'd call expensive. You’ll often find Dover books in gift shops at historic sites like the attractions in Galena, IL. Dover books are printed on good paper, with excellent technique. Wonderful photos and illustrations, well produced. Today’s adults once cherished those books, paper doll sets and maps - many of which are still around, being perused by a second generation. These books always provide fascinating information you might not find elsewhere, in highly digestible form. A lot of the text is reprinted, condensed or abridged from actual historic writings. Butterfly Arts and Crafts Fun Kit - clip art, stickers, painting pages, stain glass paper panels to color, stencils and more. In the box, a bonus CD-Rom stores more than 300 color butterfly illustrations. This set combines many typical Dover elements. Don't give it to a little child - stick with third grade or so and older so the child can work patiently and carefully. Calming and relaxing, this boxed set is a worthy gift for grandparents to receive as well as give. $24.95. Enchanted Moccasins and Other Native American Legends - edited by Henry R. Schoolcraft is one of those. The author is called the first man to study North American Indian life. Here's a collection of fairy tales and legends handed passed between generations around campfires or on the trail as tribes moved around the prairies. The writing is easily understood and not at all dry. Manabozho the giant provides an amusing cautionary tale of consequences. Osseo, Son of the Evening Star is a soft, beautiful story of family love. The Dover edition is adapted from an original historic work by Schoolcraft. Soft cover, $8.95. Scrapbooker's Full-Color Treasure Chest - almost 450 copyright-free images printed on one side only so you can cut them out. They'll give your craft projects a real personality and remind people of days gone by. The colors don't run like inkjet colors seem to. The paper is heavy and glossy. If digital Scrapbooking is your niches - the included CD-Rom is just right. Topics include, baby showers, graduations, wedding themes and many more. $19.95. Make Your Own Paper Snow Flakes - by Peggy Edwards. Like many Dover books, this one lends itself to hands-on crafting. It has enlargeable patterns to create 30-some delicate paper snowflakes and would be an appropriate and welcome gift anyone who likes art and paper play. The book offers a bit about how snowflakes come to be and a list of salient remarks by famous people on the subject of snowflakes. For example, Voltaire observed, "No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible." $5.95.
